When considering how best to support our children in their literacy development we must consider literacy for the 21st century and therefore the changing forms of language which our children and young people use and are exposed to.

Are we losing the ability to have a conversation?  Texting, video games, televisions and computer screens seem to rule our lives.  Each of these technologies has a place in today's play; however we must ensure that the art of conversation leads this engagement.

In this current era of quick communication it is the responsibility of practitioners to respond positively to changes and incorporate them in the learning opportunities we afford our children.  This course is the ideal training opportunity for those who wish to:

  • Develop oral language
  • Explore the sounds, words and phrases of our world
  • Investigate the building blocks of spoken language and how to put them firmly in place for every child
  • Link phonological awareness and language development
  • Develop listening partnerships
  • Make effective use of each aspect of literacy in order to embrace the learning potential for each
  • Explore the use of contexts, backdrops and environments to fully engage learners in a love of literacy
