Name Of Facilitator/s:    Clare Reed & Mike Akers

Clare Reed has over 20 years teaching experience, mainly working in inner-city schools working across the Primary phase. Over the last ten years, Clare has worked as a Speech, Language and Communication Consultant. During this time she developed, wrote and designed the Talk across the Curriculum, Nurturing Talk, Talking Families and TakingPartners@Primary.  She has also collaborated with colleagues to write Talk Volunteers, TalkingPartners@Secondary and Talk4Maths.

These programmes support the development of speaking and listening skills to enhance not only children's learning but also their social and emotional well-being, and can be adapted for working either at whole class level, small groups or with individuals.

Clare will lead the morning session looking at;

  • Developing Language in the Classroom across the primary curriculum for academic, social and emotional success
  • Understanding the processes involved with expressive and receptive language and the key aspects of social languages and group interaction
  • Deliver strategies and activities to promote SLC skills in the classroom

Mike Akers is a writer, performer and educator who has been exploring the non-verbal approach for over ten years, first with Travelling Light Theatre Company and then with Visible Thinking.
