Anna Ephgrave, Assistant Headteacher and Author

Anna currently spends half her working week as Assistant Headteacher for the EYFS at Carterhatch Infant School. This school was graded as ‘Outstanding’ in November 2013. Prior to this post she was an Advanced Skills Teacher, leading and developing a very successful Early Years Team within a Primary School for over 20 years. Her work in the early years has led to Outstanding grades in four OFSTED inspections without any forward planning or focus acitivities!! She is passionate about the need for children to feel confident and independent. Outdoor learning and risk taking play a large part in the experience she offers the children. She has had two very successful books published by Routledge “The Reception Year in Action” and “The Nursery Year in Action”. In her time away from school, Anna works as a consultant supporting schools to develop their practice.

Ruth Moore, Director Freedom to Learn Network

At present, Ruth is based as a consultant within two schools ensuring that all her training is ‘grassroots’ based. Prior to becoming freelance she has been an Early Years Manager within the School Improvement service and a Primary, Nursery and Children’s Centre headteacher. Ruth believes that children learn best in environments that provide opportunities to risk-take, experiment, practise, think and discover through first-hand experiences both indoors and out.
